Details: Lucas Estate produces quality, handcrafted wines from their 6.5 acre vineyard with plantings of Chardonnay, Verdelho, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Muscat.

Louise Samuel and Colin Sellers came to Lucas Estate in August 2003 fulfilling their dreams of growing grapes, making good wine and (for Louise) becoming a 'real' artist. Louise and Colin met in Wollongong through their pursuit of long distance triathlon and discovered that they also both had a passion for wine and so the seeds were sown. In 2002 they married and not long later purchased Lucas Estate.

Colin's years spent on the family farm have proved invaluable in the vineyard. His meticulous nature as a surveyor is equally useful in the running of the winery (with help from local winemaker Jim Barnes).

Louise ran an advertising business from 1984 and has the credentials to achieve, what so many boutique wineries lack, good presentation and professional marketing.

The other resident willing workers are: Crew the Labrador; Trotty the Pussycat; Penny the Galah; and Merlo (without a T), Gabby and Jeannie the bug eating ducks.

Lucas Estate comprises 52 acres in a bush setting with vines covering 6.5acres.

The varieties of grapes grown are Muscat Hamburg, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Verdelho.

Our philosophy is to conserve native habitat and to undertake farming practices with a minimum impact on the natural environment. The resident wallabies and kangaroos do have an attraction to young vines but generally ignore established vines. The birds can devastate the crop as the grapes ripen so we are investing in more nets.

The vineyard and winery are 2.5 hours drive from Brisbane, 3 hours from the Gold Coast 40 minutes from Tenterfield in NSW.

Tasting for sales of wines and various local preserves, including Mt Sterling Olive products.

Coffee, wine by the glass and gourmet platters of local produce can be enjoyed in the air conditioned cellar door with great views over the vineyard. Lucky customers will see the pretty faced wallabies grazing in the vines by the cellar door and there is also abundant bird life.

The cellar door also houses an art gallery featuring works by local artists including resident artist Louise Samuel.

Owners Louise and Colin are available to chat about all aspects of wine making as you taste the wines and you are welcome to just visit and view the artworks.
